Knoxville’s Big Ears Festival has added two world-renowned composers–whose work has revolutionized music–to its 2019 lineup. Alvin Lucier will perform solo, and his work will be performed by the Ever Present Orchestra feat. Stephen O’Malley and Oren Ambarchi. Joan La Barbara will perform a set of her own extraordinary work, as well as solo works for voice composed for her by Lucier. For half a century, both Alvin Lucier and Joan LaBarbara have challenged our perceptions of how music can sound and what it can be. As we prepare to have our minds opened, we look forward to seeing both composers at Big Ears this year. See the full lineup thus far, here.
